I worked at Aflac full-time (more than an year)

Pros

You make your own hours which is great especially if you have other things going or or sudden events. The managers are great people overall but will secretly trash you if you aren't doing well. All they care about is numbers.

Cons

Managers will leave you on your own after a few weeks, and then pester you when your numbers aren't high enough. If you don't have a good manager, then more likely then not your career will fail quickly. Turnover is very high in this position.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be realistic to potential employees when meeting with them. Don't show the high number of making over $150K your first year. Only elite people do this.

I worked at Aflac as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great mobility within the firm, lot of opportunities for someone ambitious. Management actually wants to develop junior level employees. You can essentially learn whatever you want...be it credit, investments, strategy, risk, etc. Relatively new/small firm (or rather, investment branch of a f500 company) so you can take on as much responsibility as you want or don't want. Your career development is up to you. Lot of intelligent people here who worked in banking, consulting, PE, AM, etc.

Very flexible in terms of what you do on a day to day basis. Great work life balance. No one is expected to work past an hour after the market closes. Very generous with benefits. They pay very well. They even provide you with supplementary insurance. Great office New York office on the 28th floor of 100 Wall Street. Very organized for a company that is so small.

Everyone here is very, very, very hard working and they want to help the company grow. People at the firm knows one another by first name basically...since the firm is less than 100 people. Little (actually no) office politics. You can walk up to senior management and start a conversation with them if you want. People here are in for the long haul. They seem to think this will be their last job (not sure if that's a good thing or a bit morbid).

    Everyone loves the duck.

    Cons

Firm still in the build out stages. Work can be overwhelming sometimes if you're on a small team.

I have been working at Aflac

    Pros

Great purpose, caring, concerned member of the community, solid history, large employer in the Columbus area. Founding values and principals are exemplary.

    Cons

Subject to the state of the economy, impacting sales. Opportunities for growth and cross-training dwindling. Benefits are realizing the national trends. Outsourcing is increasing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Value employees and their contributions.
