Former Employee - District Sales Associate in Fairfax, VA
Former Employee - District Sales Associate in Fairfax, VA

I worked at Aflac full-time (less than a year)

Pros

Good office atmosphere. District sales associates willing to mentor aspiring agents. My mentor's administrator was extremely helpful in sales training and studying for the Virginia State Health Insurance Exam. Learned effective sales techniques.

Cons

Not much personal interaction with associates. Sales training meetings are boring and ineffective. Almost everything must be done yourself. Far too much cold calling to start out. Fast-Start seminar in Maryland is motivating, though networking is tough if you don't have immediate or second degree connections to business owners or HR representatives. You are your own business- there is no salary, only commission. If you have any past criminal history, consider yourself unqualified.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training should be shadow training. Aspiring agent should be able to shadow a district sales associate for a period of two weeks to see how the best producers organize themselves, cold call, and network with potential clients.

I have been working at Aflac full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I like the benefits I receive, 401k, health insurance, stock option, pension plan. It appears that there is room for growth and everyone is friendly. Management is easy to talk to.

    Cons

Aflac should pay $18 per hour in the call center. The job is challenging and representatives should be paid accordingly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider implementing training tools that will help call center employees communicate more effectively. Also, the current grading system in the call center should be revised; it is severe and promotes a consistent fear of losing one's job. Thank you.
