I worked at Agilent Technologies

Pros

Co-workers were great and very supportive

Cons

Agilent lost it's heart when they gave up the principles that Dave and Bill founded the company on (Agilent is a spin off of Hewlett Packard)

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Large company with somewhat ability to move around, good benefits and salaries, generally good work/life balance with peaks and valleys (as long as you are not in QA or IT). Great social responsibility too and definitely a company of business integrity overall. Supports taking risks for innovation, but a slight drawback is (depending on mgr) you still might get negative impact if risk doesn't pan out.

    Cons

In recent years with layoffs after layoffs, culture has become very political and has minimized opportunity to move around or get promoted. Agilent's robust "old boys network" and fact that most leaders stay in their jobs for MANY years exacerbates the politics and limited personal growth opportunities. Individual contributors don't get quite as much political impact as mgrs. Just sad to see mgrs that are making results get negatively impacted while those without results get promoted because of who they know. As with any company, the direct manager has significant impact on personal experience. Some mgrs are great, others are horrible (usually tied to the politics)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop the insanity of the old boys network. Shake up leadership. Stop consistent org flattening that limits personal growth and in turn business growth opportunities through innovation.

Solid company that is oftentimes too conservative.
