Pros

Good pay/benefits
Knowledge exposure is incredible and is easily transferable elsewhere
flexible work-from-home programs available
Hard work easily translates into recognition

Cons

AWFUL work/life balance
Goals and visions differ greatly between departments
Bringing new employees up to speed on technologies is painfully slow
finger-pointing culture becoming prevalent in services/support
product engineering is sometimes misaligned with customer needs and asks

Have ALL departments within the org to put the customer first instead of their own interests

    I worked at Akamai as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

    network giant that has huge amount of data, lots of interesting research problems, ideal workplace for data miner; nice location, convenient public transportation;

    Cons

    probably separates the engineering persons with the marketing guys in workplace cuz sometimes it becomes so loud that it is hard to focus.
