I have been working at Alabama State University as a contractor (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Travel to any conference that accepted a paper to be presented was furnished by the university. Many opportunities for cross-collaboration between departments and colleges on pedagogical content, and research existed.

    Cons

Salaries aren't great; however, they are adequate for living in Montgomery, Alabama. Withstanding the institution, the city lacks an active social, cultural aspect for young, single professionals.

    Pros

Some of the people are great people trying to do their jobs to the best of their ability

    Cons

Environment is corrupt from top to bottom.
You'll find efforts to move up stopped because of petty politics.
Poor hires from board assures again that the unqualified rise to the top and the qualified either leave or remain in positions where their influence is limited.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop making the primary focus paying back your friends.
Focus on the quality of education you are delivering.
