You get out of it; what you put into it

Supervisor (Current Employee)
Edmonton, AB (Canada)

I have been working at Alberta Health Services full-time for more than a year

ProsIt's big so there are opportunities to move about depending on how dynamic you want your career to be. The pay is reasonable and can be competitive. If you are engaged and take on more responsibility; there is opportunity. If you want to float and do as little as possible, unfortunately, that can happen too.

ConsEmployees have an unreasonable sense of entitlement and the unions are really causing the downfall of the healthcare system. They have gone beyond protecting the worker to harming the financial stability of the employer. Sick time, bereavement leave, breaks, WBC claims, disability claims are all being abused. Everyone complains but no one does anything about it.

Advice to Senior ManagementPrivatize the most costly facets of the organization and negotiate more reasonable collective agreements.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Nursing jobs are being cut and AHS is planning to lay off several… Advice to Senior Management: Be honest about what your agenda is. Don't claim that patient care is… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company… More
