The people were great especially how they tried to come together to accomplish a goal. When under pressure, the core teams pulled it together and understood what impact they had on each other.

    Cons

They didn't believe in flexibility with work hours or working from home. It was not available to all departments. It come across as biased at times.

I have been working at Alberto-Culver full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Alberto Culver was tiny in comparison to the others in the segment, and yet it delivered year after year of consistent sales growth. Unilever paid a 20% premium (on top of an all-time-high stock price) to get some of the top brands in hair and skin care.

    Cons

Alberto Culver didn't have career paths to speak of, and many senior people were in their jobs for 10/20/30/40 years! The only real option for advancement was to leave the company.

    Advice to Management

You should have had the courage to grown Alberto Culver into new markets as, but instead you sold-out the company to Unilever. After 50 years in the same headquarters location, How many people will lose their jobs on the middle of a recession? Executives and Management got sweet packages, but the rest of us just got a "better than average" severance.
