Pros – A large enterprise with an outstanding history. A community atmosphere that rewards strong contributors and values innovation. A merger of two radically different cultures. Ben Verwaayen has much experience with AT&T and understands the market and opportunities.

Cons – Brutal when faced with adversity and cost reductions. A strong heritage abandoned with little commitment to continued research. Investors always considered before employees and customers. People managers were much more concerned with their fates than providing support and guidance to their direct reports. Reporting of financial results always spun to the positive internally despite external realities.

Advice to Senior Management – Take your words seriously as they are hollow otherwise.
