I worked at Alcatel-Lucent as an intern for less than a year

Pros

First of all, Bell Labs is a big name that can be put on your resume. Second, in Bell Labs, there are lots of influential researchers actively working, and you can talk, learn and cooperate with them.

Cons

It seems the Bell Labs is losing its former influence on its research area. It used to be the leader in science and technology. Now it is facing great challenge from its competitors like AT&T research Lab, etc. Besides, the finance supporting the Bell Labs, or the Alcatel-Lucent, is having a tough time that it has to cut-off 6000 employees globally last year.

I worked at Alcatel-Lucent full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good salary, decent but declining benefits.

    Cons

Poorly managed company that has been and continues to be on the decline. The company provides good pay and benefits but for most disiplines within the corporation it is a very stressful work environment with employees expected to perform at high levels under the constant threat of workforce reductions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Top management is too slow to react to market conditions to address declining revenue. The primary means of cutting cost is always reducing the middle and lower management workforce while retaining far too many in upper management positions. Top management lacks vision for future growth of the company. Business processes are too complex and antiquated to allow the company to be responsive to customer needs. Development cycles for new products are too long and product quality has diminished over time due to overly complex business processes and the outsourcing of manufacturing to third parties. Far too much bureaucracy with productive employees under the constant threat of workforce reductions is not a recipe for success.

I have been working at Alcatel-Lucent full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

International company that still recover from a huge merge (Alcatel and Lucent), very tough industry that require entrepreneurship and work effectiveness - the two things this company needs to develop

    Cons

Large company that provide many opportunities to develop, one of the best telecommunications companies there is, have great employees that still believe in the company
