I have been working at Alion full-time

Pros

Good people at more senior level

Cons

Jamis Software outdated. Running and posting revenue every two weeks instead of every week as in Deltek Costpoint does not catch potential financial problems before month close.

Sub accrual process is the worst I have seen. Wastes countless employees time (two weeks out of month) where they could devote to better budgeting and working the financial health of a program.

No work/life balance.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Implement new software to run revenue and post financials weekly. You can also have time tickets imported daily to run revenue on if you want to go the distance. But weekly at worst.

Immediately do away with your sub accrual process! Go light, yet accurate with backup pages. or wait extra few days for invoice to come in. You are wasting excessive time and man hours on a process that is no more accurate. Who is paying for all those hours? Also, is not serving company.

I have been working at Alion full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Generally pretty flexible, decent benefits, competitive salary (at least when starting)

    Cons

Financial situation unclear and not very optimistic, little room for promotion as an engineer, government contracting in general is not (to me at least) an ideal system at all, feel disconnected from the company as a whole, feel a lack of communication (though this is probably related to specific managers and divisions)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees less like a contract asset and more like a valued employee

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

    competitive salaries, reasonable health benefits

    Cons

company appears to be financially unstable; HQ management is out of touch with the working level employee, and overcompensated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Top management is located in trophy work space. They should trim costs and become co-located with engineering level personnel.
