Pros

The work atmosphere at Alion can be characterized as friendly, collegial, and collaborative. The hours are very reasonable, and it is rare to work on the weekends.

Cons

A lot of the projects are boring. Many projects last for a year or more, and it is very difficult to change projects once you are staffed.

Advice to Management

The company should focus on brining younger talent into the organization. The company should also look for opportunities to improve contact between mid-level employees and senior management.

    Pros

Alion offers great pay and benefits to qualified individuals right out of the gate. The facilities are top notch and the D.C. location is right next to the Navy Yard Metro Station. The managers do not micromanage at all and sometimes it feels they are almost never around.

    Cons

The opportunity to transition into a different position or advance is very limited. The excellent pay and benefits are supported by the fact that the individuals hired are hired based off of very specific experience within the military. This experience is not as useful to the company in other roles so upward mobility is slow. While managers do not micromanage, they also do not mentor new hires who may be inexperienced in the world of government contracting.

    Advice to Management

Recommend more interaction with indivdual employees, perhaps training sessions at the divisional level.

    Pros

short commute is a plus, technical support provided is outstanding, work is interesting, online training is readily available and varied, benefits are better than or equal to others in similar industry locally, community involvement and support is very good,

    Cons

no advancement opportunitites locally, pay is somewhat lower than similar indutries locally, caliber of some personnel on staff leaves much to be desired, lack of professionalism by some co-workers is embarrassing

    Advice to Management

engage the technology available to better utilize the assets you have at both the major and offsite offices, stop spending money on slick glossy company "promotionals" i.e annual reports, sent to the employee-owners and utilize the technology the company has, post it on the intraweb, those who want to read it WILL find it
