I worked at Alion full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

First line supervisor great. Benefits are good, especially disability. Will usually work to keep you covered contractually.

Cons

Hire of high pay employees who don't produce is rampant. Too much overhead. This results in workers who produce getting less than industry average pay. No internal opportunities to advance, can stay at same pay grade/job for a long time. Need to take a look at hiring retired generals/admirals and what they really bring to the table for what they're being compensated. Very little recognition either via awards or bonuses.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Slice the overhead and compensate those who bring in the money. Instead of laying off loyal employees who have produced look at the ones hired (on overhead) for business development. If they aren't bring in business they should be the ones hitting the bricks.

I worked at Alion full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The diversity of the work was interesting, the two teams for which I worked were composed of great people, the benefits were good (including a sign-on bonus), and there was a nice corporate atmosphere -- management was concerned about not only the business, but the employees and their career advancement.

    Cons

Ultimately, there were some divisional problems with business development leading to the lay off of personnel, but these have since been corrected.
