Great people, work/life balance and benefits, but lack of trust and accountability.

Pros

The people! The employees at Allstate are caring, fun, and easy to get along with. You'll make great friends while working here. Work/life balance is strongly encouraged and supported. Onsite daycare and fitness center (at the home office) are very convenient and a lot of paid time off is given - even in the first year of employment (3 weeks in first year, 4 weeks between 2nd and 5th year). Also, flexible work hours and telecommuting policies also contribute to balance of work and life.

Cons

There are a few bad apples that micro-manage. Also, there doesn't seem to be much knowledge-sharing between departments. This makes working across departments difficult.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build trust among your peers and hold each other accountable for building trust among your teams.

    Pros

Balance of work/personal life and benefits.

    Cons

Company’s focus has changed from customer friendly to foe, employee friendly to foe. Employees are expected to process multiple lines claims in ever decreasing increments of time, often sacrificing friendly conversations that kept customers renewing policies. Customer complaints are directed to partner sites where ill mannered employees inform customers they will have to wait longer. The core values of the company have changed along with the reorganization of long-term employees and anyone who expressed dissenting opinion became ineligible for another position within the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat knowledgeable, long-term employees with respect by retaining them and paying them the wages they have earned. Promote employees with dissenting views about the operation. Listen to employees who want to make the company a better place to do business. Hire front-line managers that connect with tenured employees and make them feel valued.

    Pros

Laid back atmosphere and if you do your work, great opportunity for advancement. They pay for you to go to school, if you so choose and are quite flexible when it comes to allowing for time off. Recognition is great, although some of the money spent on that might be well spent elsewhere -- great management/employee relations -- comfortable work environment. Management is VERY helpful when there's a problem with a customer and almost always back up the decision you've made.

    Cons

Senior management spends money on things that are unneccessary and wasteful when that money could go towards salaries. Not as much freedom to make judgement calls as would be expected.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen the the employees that are on the front line and deal with customers on a daily basis.
