CHANGE IS NEEDED

Project Manager (Current Employee)
Northbrook, IL

I have been working at Allstate

ProsAllstate allows you to maintain a good Work Life balance. They have a day care, hairdresser, oil changes on campus, flexible work hours and allow telecommuting.
The people that work at Allstate tend to be good in nature. They participate in volunteering, charities, but most importantly, you can make good friends.
Health benefits are good specially for pregnant women. They have a profit sharing program that tends to be very good.
The company is good to the employees.
Due to the size of the company, you can find different things to do within. You are likely to change paths and try different things.

ConsAllstate is too conservative and old school. The systems are old and hard to replace as they were build with old technology in mind and the leaders are not willing to put the money to be innovative and competitive.
Too much bureaucracy and inefficiency - There are too many Managers and very few people who do the work. Too many processes exist and get on the way of doing your job. Meetings are inefficient and it is hard to get a consistent decision fro leadership.
Low salaries - Allstate does not compete on salary. Also, a position change does not mean your salary gets adjusted. If you change to a position where you should be making more, you don't get a raise. Viceversa, if you do something that pays less, you still get the higher pay.

Advice to Senior Managementthe processes are hurting us... have 1 leader per project and everyone report to him.

Working in an agency is ok for 3-5 years at the most.
