I worked at Allstate as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

- Strong Professional Network - One on one mentoring - Interesting projects - Great internship at any level - Awesome work/life balance despite being on the private equity side - Excessive face time isn't required as long as you get your work done - The team wants to equip you with transferable skills

Cons

- They do not have any entry level investment positions currently available, but Allstate encourages their interns to participate in their Leadership Development Program.

I have been working at Allstate full-time

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, generous PTO, remote work possible for many employees.

    Cons

Upper management rushes decisions and roll-outs for projects and layoffs. They have been laying off entire departments all across the country and they are outsourcing a lot of operations work to India. The pay is not great, opportunities for advancement are strongly based on connections vs qualifications (which is sometimes ok). Their systems are so outdated and there are a lot of issues related to that.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to rely more upon their leaders and the staff on the floor. Outsourcing is a good solution sometimes but you need to really know the work before you source it. Pay attention to the risk and take it seriously. Invest in quality. Some of these budget cut strategies may be really detrimental to the customers in the long run. Also, invest in your technology and stop hiring these top guys who rush decisions and refuse to acknowledge mistakes- how will they ever learn what works and what doesn't?
