    Pros

FPGA Company with lots of potential for the future.
Very long product shelf lives imply financial stability for the company.
    Compensation package.

    Cons

Too many changes in engineering, for sake of changes, but no real long term value to Altera.

Job insecurities at various levels is forcing people to create low value add tasks with minimal or no real value to Altera.

    Advice to Management

Harness wisdom of ICs – decentralize decision making to IC. Minimize manager’s participation in the technical working level meetings

God father culture -- “It’s who you know not what you know that counts” Merit does not count. Do away from people with just “good names” but no history of delivering results. Recognize people with “goodness”, who have history of delivering desired results

Close the loop -- Make skip level meeting mandatory. Give engineers chance to be heard by their boss’s boss directly at a regular basis

ICE is embarking on a cruise with brand new “ship” to no-where. Unfortunately it has no navigation plans and zero experience with icebergs. Sounds like another Titanic in the making.

Bottom line, currently its a close two-horse race, decisions made in this generation would decide which company would be Intel and which would be AMD.

Less politics, but senior mgmt doesn't seem to have a clue on what to do

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Less politics. People are willing to help another in the team. Mgmt trying hard to support work-life balance in the company.

    Cons

Senior mgmt doesn't seem to have a clear vision on what to do and where to bring the site to. A lot of preaching, very little leadership by example. A lot of reactive work and often scramble when there's a problem instead of clear leadership and alignment when resolving issues.

    Advice to Management

As much as middle managers like to get involved in strategy making, there need to be a clear vision from the top. Do not overdo it and leave everything to the managers to decide. Else, you'll be leaving an impression that you do not know what you want.
