I have been working at Altus Group

Pros

A lot of flexibility when it comes to getting the job done and promotes personal initiatives. Diverse service lines and a lot of exposure to different types of industries such as oil & gas, oilsands, telco, wind energy, real estate etc.

Cons

Inconsistent management style can leave staff members frustrated. HR policies are not followed or lacking such as performance and salary reviews. No neutral party to mediate disputes.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop management policy that all your managers and directors would follow. Understand the needs of the different departments and their working cycle before being overly critical or applying un-necessary pressure.

  1. OK experience, better to come in at a Senior Level than to try and work your way up.

I have been working at Altus Group

    Pros

Competitive pay package, great bonus program, great health benefits. Willing to pay for employee training and development. Management are generally good to employees and treat them fairly.

    Cons

Management is more pre-occupied with generating a profit than providing quality service to clients. Management very pre-occupied with tracking and scrutinizing employee hours and productivity which is reflected in low morale and a low desire by employees to do extra, help one another and share knowledge. Fringe benefits are offered but usually with conditions attached. Reactive rather than proactive managment in dealing with employees. Difficult to get promotions and move up the corporate ladder unless you work excessive hours or are in with someone above. No formal pension or retirement plan is offered. Summer hours and flextime are claimed to be offered but most managers disregard these and don't allow employees to take advantage of them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Loosen up, treat employees more like professionals and less like drones in an assembly line. Get with the times, adopt modern management practices instead of the current archaic ones, if you are going to offer fringe benefits don't offer them with strings attached, get a real retirement plan.

  2. Great place to start off, or to join in at a Snr Management level

    I worked at Altus Group

    Pros

Its a good place to work if you are just getting started in the real estate industry. Decent opportunity to try different groups ..

    Cons

Terrible to move up in the company....questionable managerial decision making - senior management enjoy HUGE pay packages, and pay the workers next to nothing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you dont want to lose your best and brightest analysts and consultants, pay them more than sweat shop level pay.
