I have been working at Alzheimer's Association

Pros

Friendly and supportive staff, relaxed work environment, excellent benefits and PTO, the work is meaningful and makes an impact, organization is highly regarded in the local community

Cons

Not much room for growth in the organization, communication between departments lacks at times, busy times are extremely busy- long hours and weekends are needed often

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication regarding big decisions and changes is rarely made to all employees, there is often a disconnect in the transmission of these messages

    I worked at Alzheimer's Association

    Pros

It is a great organization, does important work for families that really need assistance. The organization has a good supportive board that really cares about the cause, and is supportive of the staff, and gets involved in both day to day activities and fundraisers and special events.

    Cons

Occasionally a board member will be incompetent or know far more less than they think; or a manager will be inexperienced and drive employees away. Hopefully their past issues will not hold them back, because overall the organization is important to the community.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure you know what you're doing; get competent, experienced board members to back you up if you don't; add an attorney to the board before you get yourself in trouble.

    I worked at Alzheimer's Association full-time

    Pros

Development department offers the possibility for learning many areas of work and skills. You must have a willingness to wear many hats and be quick on your feet. There is room for growth - you have to be willing to put in the time. The cause is necessary and the national strategy is clear.

    Cons

Strategic decisions are made at the national level with relative disregard for what might be right for a specific region. You must drink the cool-aide or you may as well look for new employment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please rethink hiring regional major gift officers and corporate strategists who do not have a connection to the region. They may be a savvy sales person but if the potential donor or company can't connect with them they won't trust them or give a dime to the cause. One meeting is not enough to get quality results.
