Current Employee - Hardware Engineer II in Cupertino, CA

I have been working at Amazon Lab126 full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Great people to work with, some of the smartest in the industry. Cool products to work on. Casual dress code. Work hours are flexible. Pay is very good. Cupertino location is also great.

Cons

No work/life balance, most people are married to their jobs and neglect their families. Expected to travel to China approximately every two months, very poor working conditions there. Employees aren't appreciated or rewarded well for extra time put in. Career path is up to you...which means they provide no guidance. Bezos wants to be Steve Jobs but doesn't understand HW development.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow your employees, stop putting the absolute minimum people on a project.

Former Employee - Software Development Engineer in Sunnyvale, CA

I worked at Amazon Lab126 as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The company as a whole is doing really cool things, and everyone genuinely cares about giving customers the best possible value. Lab126 employees get to work on next generation Kindle hardware and software, so it's really cool to get an inside look at the Kindle family product pipeline.

    Cons

Company culture is a bit lacking. High levels of security mostly prevent any inter-team mingling, so you end up spending time with just your team. They also heavily enforce non-disclosure policies since they often have contractors working for them, so this means you might not be allowed to know what the person a few cubicles away is working on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to encourage better social interactions within the company
