Pros

Amazon has fantastic customer service and this influences the development of the Kindle in a positive way. More data driven than other companies.

Cons

Culture emphasizes looking at the employee as a glass half empty.
Values thriftiness to a demoralizing fault.
Overdoes it on promoting internally - senior managers are leading efforts they have no experience in and obviously stumble and haven't a clue on how to begin - bring in someone from the outside who is experienced and let them lead the effort.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a competitive analysis of yourself as company against other valley companies and see how you measure in terms of compensation/treatment of employees - the recession won't last forever and the good ones will leave.

    Pros

    Good Salary
Learning is good to some extent

    Cons

Health takes a toll due to the stress you are in ..
Don't take up the job in case you want to have a family life
Bar raiser and ownership are two concepts invented to justify unlimited assignment of work
All people talk in native language even in Meetings, you can't get a hint and suggesting english is considered rude.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want people to do quality work , give them room . Deadline driven work lacks quality.

    Pros

You work with some very smart people who genuinely care a lot about the product, the pay is good, and even though some rules sound fairly strict (smart casual dress code for example), if you get your job done, people don't care. Hackathons were also a great chance to experiment with the Kindle.

    Cons

Very political - there were tensions within my group, and to get things done you really had to get people on your side on the exec level. Often needed to get approval before I could go ahead and do things.

    Approves of CEO
