Worst work environment for non-tech people. They do not provide much growth opportunity.

I have been working at Amazon.com full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

You are always surrounded by the smartest engineers and skilled project managers. Very innovative and you are always asked to come up with new ideas and improvement.

Cons

No work-life balance, and the management does not show interest in your work-life balance. I have reported to 6 different managers so far, and only 1 of them showed sincere interest in the employees well-being.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to offer growth opportunity for those who are 'home grown' long time contributing Amazonians. I have seen many long time contributors (mainly people with non-tech positions) who end up being managed out but provided very little opportunity to continue contributing due to the company's very fast growth in the past 5 years. Even when you manage out, show some respect to them. They worked hard for you to establish the basic of Amazon. Pay more attention to their employees well-being too.

    Pros

Some very smart people pass through. The pay seems good but will be selling your whole life to them.

    Cons

Mean-spirited, fearful environment. Unless you are one of the suck-ups, expect to be bullied. Anyone with any self respect usually runs out the door. Especially if they ever want to see their kids again. Like others have said it's an online Walmart, without seeing the elderly, and pregnant women humiliated on a daily basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You will continue to make money because customers only care about price. Find a better way to make a living than helping to abuse people by making a deal with this devil. Why is Amazon never on the best places to work list?

    Pros

Fast Paced, Constantly Innovating, rewarding for those who put in the effort. Has great benefits and decent pay for the immediate area. Can quickly move up!

    Cons

Some low morale, has serious problems with communication. Can promote Safety, Quality, then Safety, although productions needs seems to trump these procedures.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep your heads up and obsess over your associates.
