Former Employee - Area Manager in Reno, NV

Pros

It's nice to be part of a growing company, everyday is a challenge, company really does put customer first. If you have energy, they have projects to do and want you to do them.

Cons

Management turnover very high, HR is pays more respect to temporary help than its own managers. Pathways program is a major failure for those in it and those not. Many in senior management do not have professional experience or conduct. The senior managers dump all their work on the Ops, then tell them they suck if they don't perform. The software in the scanners absolutely sucks. What they call 'being frugal' most people call cheap.Their long term plan is one week. If you work less than 60 hours you're not a good leader.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop staring at spreadsheets and actually do something. HR should spend less time on temps and more time on development plans. A high hiring bar doesn't mean being a workaholic from Harvard. Good managers don't need to be the smartest people in the world, they need to know how to keep people motivated and give them the tools to do so.

    Pros

    Cons

Developers are not valued as much as in other places
Agile often turns into "ridiculously disorganized"

    Worst benefits I've ever seen

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you and recruiters complain about how hard it is to find good people consider that many 'good people' simply don't apply or respond to Amazon. Mainly because of the bad rep it accrued due to issues mentioned above.
Start treating developers better and improve the benefits.
