I worked at AmeriCorps full-time (less than an year)

Pros

Great experience, interesting people, a wide variety of work to build new and different skill, a chance to really get out of your comfort zone and explore new aspects and cultures of the US and disaster preparation and recovery.

Cons

Possible conflicting personalities within the team, some may not be use to living off a budget and or stipend, can be a bit difficult to secure a position for more than one term.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

As always more preparation and research into projects and sponsors beforehand is always appreciated.

I have been working at AmeriCorps as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

The volunteers I work with and manage are a pleasure and joy to be around.
The children clients in the mentoring program that my host site organization is affiliated with are great to be around.

    Cons

Monthly stipend sometimes just isn't enough.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More funding to increase monthly stipend.
Possibly provide transportation reimbursement for those who qualify (reimburse for half of a monthly Metrocard).

    Pros

Americorps provides skills and training for young people ages 18-25. Americorps is an excellent choice for someone right out of highschool, looking for an experience before college.

    Cons

There is a 1 year commitment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more individual/specific training for each project.
