I worked at AmeriCorps as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

They really try to foster a community feeling and offer a variety of experience. Get the opportunity to make valuable connections in the community.

    Cons

Low pay, long hours. Expectations are very high and not commensurate with experience or compensation. Management also tends to play favorites.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Guidance and feedback to ground-level employees needs to be reworked and strengthened.

I worked at AmeriCorps full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great experience, interesting people, a wide variety of work to build new and different skill, a chance to really get out of your comfort zone and explore new aspects and cultures of the US and disaster preparation and recovery.

    Cons

Possible conflicting personalities within the team, some may not be use to living off a budget and or stipend, can be a bit difficult to secure a position for more than one term.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As always more preparation and research into projects and sponsors beforehand is always appreciated.
