I worked at AmeriCorps as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good team based atmosphere, Good mid/upper level management, Felt like you made a difference sometimes, The members were dedicated to making a difference

    Cons

Some of the sponsors did not need help, Felt like cheap or free labor at points and sometimes were treated that way

    Advice to Management

Treat your workers like adults with an education. Be more selective with project choice.

  2. I couldn't wait for the year to be over, but I've leveraged the heck out of the work I did during job interviews.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

You'll get a good resume piece out of it. Getting to know fellow AmeriCorps members. Lots of responsibility if you like to take things on and drive projects forward. You get to say you served your country for a year. I worked under Campus Compact, and the director of the local chapter was a great resource and provided great training and advice.

    Cons

The day-to-day of it was very tedious. I found myself board and playing games on my computer sometimes. Ideas from my supervisor threatened to change the scope of my project every so often. I lived with my parents and don't know how I would have survived on the poverty-level salary. I obviously could have, but it would not have been pleasant.

    Advice to Management

Provide more substantial and relevant training.
