I have been working at AmeriCorps full-time (less than an year)

Pros

Professional development opportunites.
Lots of travel.
Could potentially meet lifelong friends
Legitimate gap year option after undergrad

Cons

Low living wages.
Housing situations aren't always ideal.
Work is not always hands-on (depends on the particular track)
Could be stuck with clashing personalites for the duration.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

We understand that we're not doing this for the money but little upgrade to our food budget and housing allowance would be nice.

    AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps - Day to day work wasn't great but the overall experience was worth it.

    I have been working at AmeriCorps

    Pros

    You get to live and work on a team of people your age (18-24). You also get to travel all over the country on different assignments.

    Cons

    While working for FEMA, we did a lot of monotonous office work and were shuffled around during disaster periods.

    You work with smart and caring people
    You interact with diverse populations
    It's an amazing organization

    Paperwork
    Training (they may have reformed this)

    Encourage teams to really get to know each other so that they can be unified in their approach
