American Airlines Senior Manager IT in Fort Worth, TX:   (Current Employee)

Pros

I live in Texas and it's close to where I live. Travel benefits sound good however unless you want to travel to Waco on Tuesday, it's tough to get anywhere. On occasion, you do luck out.

Cons

Losing money for years. CIO is a complete ass and therefore in a technology track it's tough to overlook how horrible your leadership is. Kill the messenger mentality, no innovation, fear and intimidation are how IT is run.

Directors are not held accountable for gross incompetence. Endless freebies abound for VPs yet employees can't sit in a chair that's not broken. Most directors don't even know the names of their employees much less take an interest in development.

Advice to Senior Management

Get rid of Monte Ford and the brotherhood of Associates. The guy running AA.com spends more time on the golf course than delivering anything. Hold management accountable for ensuring that their employees get exposure and opportunities. Not a single senior management person was affected by the recent RIFs. Fear and intimidation are not management techniques.

AA CIO is poor. I met no one who thought he was an asset. Most feared him because of his practice of verbal abuse and threats to fire people. He has little IT insight, but apparently is a decent bureaucrat. Why is he even in IT, seems better suited for sales and advertising, he is a unabashed self-promoter

Totally agree about Ford. There are multiple ADMINS at AA who know infinitely more about IT than he does, and this reviewer "Senior Manager IT" hit the nail on the head about the freebies - this guy should have been fired back during the desktop refresh for the gross overspending he cost the company then (and continues to do so to this day in everything he does). But he's got it so cush he'll never leave and they sure can't fire him...
