Working at the ABA

Program Assistant (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsThe American Bar Association is very intricate and has many different areas that you can work in, depending on your interests. The pay is good for a non-profit, the company promotes internal movement and advancement and they treat employees well (time off, benefits, etc.)

ConsThis is a member-driven organization so if you work at the Chicago office, much of their work, unlike DC which is where all the action happens, is focused on their members and less on law-related issues. Management had to go through training this past summer so there will definitely be improvements as far as upper-management understanding what their employees need and how to treat them well. You definitely won't see many, if any, bonuses and for lower level positions, the 2.5% raise is fine, but it's a company-wide raise so there's no difference in additional compensation between those who work hard and those who do nothing all day.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
