Pros

Great volunteers and mission, good benefits and salary for a non-profit, team building and idea sharing with other community representatives

Cons

Long hours, meetings just to meet, management discourages their employees from having a personal life (significant other, children, outside activities), managers do not treat people equally

Advice to Management

Stop being so political and treat people equally and fairly. Do not lie to us to our face about advancement opportunities.

    Pros

    Great Team
    Great Benefits
    Popular Company
    The missions of ACS

    Cons

    Low Salary
Not many growth opportunities, but expect more responsibilities with no raise or bonus
You will start out doing on job and can be assign anything by any other manager, even if they are not in your department.
The company is constantly changing and many people are afraid of losing their jobs.
They expect you to raise money and recruit volunteers not matters what your position is.
Even though its a non-profit...it feels very corporate

  2. Great mission, tries to support employees, but often misses the mark.

    Pros

You get to fight cancer on a national level, which makes you feel good. The volunteers you work with are passionate and fun, and are probably the best part of the job.

    Cons

Depending what office you are in, there can be little room for growth. Salary is on the low side. You are encouraged to be entrepreneurial and reinvent, but are often stymied when you try to. They throw around the word "support" a lot and don't give you what you really need. There is a lot of overlap in duties.

    Advice to Management

Let your income staff actually be creative and give them the chance to listen to what the community wants. Hire from within if you can. Be smart when you are supporting folks-do successful income staff really need 2 supervisors, or are there some new folks who really could use the help?
