I have been working at American Cancer Society

Pros

there are no pros with this experience. i'm appalled.

Cons

I've never encountered such a lack of professionalism, bullying, and non-transparency. I was not able to obtain an official offer letter in writing and my salary was substantially reduced after the offer was verbally extended. Additionally, I was pressured into deciding on the position at the end of the business day on friday. avoid at all costs. i've never experienced such appalling lack of professionalism.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

official offer letters in writing should be extended with an offer, not after an individual accepts a position. this is standard policy at most PROFESSIONAL institutions.

I worked at American Cancer Society full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent mission. Powerful cadre of volunteers and staff. High quality information. Great brand recognition.

    Cons

Top heavy. Trying to cover too many areas and having trouble staying focused. Wasted time, money and energy on flying to meeting and being in planning stages more than implimentation stages.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn from the people out in the field. Trust them. Have a more collaborative management style which fosters team work and loyalty. Don't expect more than 40 hour weeks. Be generous with praise and recognition. Put direct patient services as a priority.
