I worked at American Cancer Society full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Work-life balance, flexible schedule, great volunteers

    Cons

Poor management, inefficient operations, lack of advancement opportunities, internal politics, overall expenses of organization continue to exceed income, poor training for staff and volunteers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a handle on managing expenses and improving operational efficiencies. Provide needed support to staff and volunteers by acting on valid concerns and implementing improved processes. Empower staff and volunteers to improve the state of affairs since this organization is struggling financially.

I worked at American Cancer Society full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Working with a variety of volunteers, helping people and working from home when needed.

    Cons

Crazy long hours, very little work/life balance, poor leadership, no opportunity for advancement. No training in position. Did I mention poor leadership? Making someone a Regional Director with 0 experience is STUPID.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't base performance strictly on how much money is raised by staff. There is more to than just numbers.
