I have been working at American Cancer Society full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Work with passionate volunteers that helped you work the long hours. Generous PTO and benefit program.

Cons

They are going through a transformation and it is a lot of disorganization and down sizing. It is going to take a while before they can right the ship. A lot of night and weekends.

Advice to Management

Less phone conferences, let your employees get out in the field. Remember the mission.

I worked at American Cancer Society full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The volunteers are inspiring- they work extremely hard to beat cancer

    Cons

All the money raised goes towards paying upper management salaries. Volunteers think they are raising money for a cure. The lower level staff partners are the ones who are actually helping to raise the funds, and are overworked, underpaid and have high expectations put on them, while upper management are out-of-touch and making all the decisions. The "transformation" is losing all their good employees.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees who are out in the field. Your turnover is so high - you have to look at why. Whoever thought up this new "transformation" should be fired.
