My time at the American Cancer Society was great. I was part of a great team, and managed some very amazing people.

I worked at American Cancer Society full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people I got to work with and manage were fantastic. I enjoyed a lot of the people that I was around and it was a good supporting environment with my peers.

    Cons

I feel the cons outweighed the pros for this job. I had no real upward mobility and my pay compared to other jobs was rather low. Management has very little direction and it's obvious in their recent transformation. The company itself is very reactive instead of proactive. I was not given the best tools to do my job better. If there was talk of getting the tools, it was months before any action was taken.

I worked at American Cancer Society

    Pros

-ACS research and the progress in the fight against cancer
-Dedicated volunteers and board members who contribute incredible amounts of time and money
-Patient support (although a lot of this was recently cut)
-The feeling that you are doing something that really matters
    -Good benefit package

    Cons

-Low pay unless you are an executive
-Impossible to complete everything that is asked of you, and difficult to prioritize since it is all important
-The Relay for Life specialists work tirelessly -- days, nights and weekends. Only someone is their 20s and without a family, could do it,
-Can be depressing. It is difficult to be talking to a lung cancer patient and smell cigarette smoke on them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No advice. I appreciate the opportunity to have worked here, even though it was not for me.
