Pros

Great cause, people are friendly and passionate about their work, great way to get non-profit experience and get further entrenched in the community

Cons

Interns are underutilized and program is disorganized; there is a lot more that they could be doing and it is frustrating at times.

Advice to Management

Increase utilization of all employees; function less like a non-profit and more like a business; leverage successes across offices better

    Pros

Have been with the company for over 10 years and have seen its changes. The direction we are moving in is more exciting than ever. Leaderships are very supportive, the teams (income development, community engagement and health systems) are working together with great chemistry to achieve the common goals. Corporate provides opportunity for staff to express feedback and input. Corporate also encourages staff to exercise work/life balance. Have met so many cancer survivors and learned a great deal from their personal stories. Wonderful venue to introduce young kids to charity work and volunteerism.

    Cons

It's not yours if new changes are intimating you.

    Advice to Management

Please keep sharing your passion and vision to the team.

    Pros

15+ years with the organization and I'm still finding challenging and rewarding opportunities. Your time at the American Cancer Society is what you make of it. If you're a negative person and only see the negatives then you're going to have a rough go of it here - or anywhere for that matter. Compensation is on par with other national nonprofits, benefits are excellent and the PTO policy and 403(b) plan are very generous. The best reward is the work you do saves lives.

    Cons

Expectations can be unreasonable at times... you can't have it 'yesterday' and you'll need to give me some time to provide you with what you need. Last minute requests for information or materials for a meeting/project that's been on your calendar for months is annoying and unprofessional.
