I have been working at American Chemical Society full-time (less than an year)

Pros

American Chemical Society allowed me to get acquainted within the IT world. Competitive pay for my then position although I've moved up considerably since then.

Cons

There seem to be cliques that form within the IT environment, a little bit of sheep mentality.

I have been working at American Chemical Society full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

salary, health care benefits, gym benefit, metro benefits, time off

    Cons

poor communication, managers don't manage, they delegate last minute projects to their employees and lecture them. Getting to the next level is extremely hard for most, but a select few seem to be on the fast track for no good reason at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

just because someone is good at what they do does not mean that they are good leaders, consider this before putting certain people in management.

I have been working at American Chemical Society full-time

    Pros

Good Work-Life balance, Depending on what department you're in you can have a great team OR you can have a not-so great team. It simply depends on what group you're in. Plenty of in-house training and professional learning sessions. Decent staff activities. Great Benefits.

    Cons

Some of the Management think that they are God's gift to mankind...have no people skills. Book Smart does not equal Common sense smart. Compensaion not the greatest, not the worst either (again that could depend on department) but the annual raises are a joke. Not to mention the "raise" they give to people who complete advanced degrees. They might as well keep that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Interpersonal training!
