Positive Outlook

I worked at American Diabetes Association as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

Super friendly staff Very welcoming work environment (my fellow interns were awesome!) Continual on-the-job training Independent work -- at your own pace; learn how to manage time well and set priorities Great for creative and self-motivated college students Can create your own projects, and the directors were flexible enough to allow me to explore my interests

Cons

The work sometimes got a little mundane or repetitive Rare interactions with "clientele"/volunteers

  1. ADA would be an excellent company for a micromanagement case study

    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at American Diabetes Association full-time

    Pros

The employees are very loyal to the cause and mission. The ADA attempts to use modern technology as a tool to meet organizational objectives

    Cons

Very strong top-down chain of command throughout the whole organization. The local level has not autonomy to determine projects not given the tools to achieve the handed-down objectives.

    Advice to Management

The ADA (and more importantly people with diabetes) can be better served if the local organization (office / chapter) had more autonomy over the program and activities withing their territory,

  2. Work for a good cause, but its messy and unorganized

    Cons

not organized, too traditional, not enough funds to properly develop teams and events

    Advice to Management

get more organized and take more chances
