Pros

I enjoyed the fast pace that fit with the awesome music playing in the store. Always something new going on, never a dull day. Very business oriented which is a plus. Customer service is the number one priority at all times which makes AEO a great retail experience for customers and associates.

Cons

Too many associates and not enough hours to give. Shipment was a hassle at times due to the hours allotted for it. Always expecting the impossible. Pay wasn't all that great either. Processes constantly changing to where everyone was doing everything differently at one point.

Advice to Management

To upper management: Set realistic goals for stores, find a balance of task and selling time and stick to it. Implementation of new processes are great, but work out the kinks before rolling out.

I worked at American Eagle Outfitters part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

It's a great environment and an amazing place to have your first job. The people are always great to get along with and they let you move on up if you show that you're a hard worker and capable of it.

    Cons

Sometimes, the managers don't give you enough hours even if you are available to work for 40 hours per week.

    Pros

    Generous discount
    Casual dress code
    Energetic environment
    Upper management seems supportive

    Cons

No learning curve for new hires at any level.
Floor set, shipment processing - everything - has a time frame allowed and it's difficult to make payroll and meet all the expectations.
Very much a "learn as you go" environment, little to no formal training for managers (at least in my experience)
Difficult to staff floor set with shift to mid week - students or employees with full time jobs can't work overnights during the week
Difficult to staff short-notice lease line and window changes when your staff is part-time and limited availability

    Advice to Management

Allow store teams to learn new processes before launching even more of them.
Fund management office time separately from selling hours.
