Pros

Great benefits and insurance
Great campus with perks and diverse workforce
Nice atmosphere

Cons

Salary is very low, bonus is offered every quarter for the first year, but after that it is gone.
Product being pitched is the same approach every single call, dialing for dollars gets tiring

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer competitive compensation for ISE's in the Scottsdale area. I couldnt sustain my income for very long while working there

No opinion of CEO

Great big company, lots of red tape and sh$# rolling downhill.

Current Employee - Manager in Dayton, OH

    Pros

Great pay and benefits, but not as great for those who work from home.

    Cons

Unless you are in a hub city, you won't be seeing a lot of perks. You feel detatched and ignored if you aren't one of the "elite" and then you realize you're only a number.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With more and more virtual employees, it would help to have some programs that those individuals can participate in. It would also be nice to have more flexibility for where those home offices can be, location wise.

I was employed by American Express for five years and enjoyed working there during economically challenged times.

    Pros

The benefit package provided by American Express is good. Adequate time off, 401K match, flexibility in work schedules for most positions. Most leaders are very conscious about work life balance and very understanding when circumstances arise that require you to miss a little work. I believe the executive leaders in the company (CEO, EVP's) are very bright and knowledgable about running the business.

    Cons

Healthcare benefits are lacking and overly expensive for a company this size, but if you consider the overall benefit package the company is quite generous. As for leadership... More care needs to be taken in the selection and retention of leaders at the senior level (site leaders and functional VP's). Recent decisions have been made which may hinder short to mid-term growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maintain your operations presence in the US. You receive so much feedback from customers, daily, that they do not like doing business with people offshore. Start listening to that feedback!
