I worked at American Express

Pros

Great work life balance within certain departments. Friendly people. Pay/benefits were pretty good.

Cons

Too much politics. Not enough communication from VP and above to managers. If you're not one of the favorites, you don't get recognized for your hard work. No accountabilty from dept. leaders for their mistakes.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use the employee survey results. Make your employees feel that their opinion/feedback counts.

    Pros

Diversity is truly a goal not a fad
    Work/life balance encouraged
    Young, ambitious and energetic workforce

    Cons

    Relationship driven organization
Advancement will depend upon who you know, not your skills
The result is a lot of incompetent managers whose sole aim is to do whatever it takes to maintain and expand their power
If you can't choke down the Kool-Aid, you might actually blurt out that the Emperor has no clothes on and be forever banished
They will be smiling in your face as the insert the knife in your back

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're no longer so profitable that you can afford to be mis-managed.
It is time to focus on ability and skill, otherwise you risk losing another tranche of able workers and promote a new round of self-promoters.

I have been working at American Express

    Pros

    1. Brand Name - Quite helpful if you plan to pursue MBA at some point of time.
    2. Benefits such as pick and drop from home for employees is available.

    Cons

    1. Being from a technical background, You might not find the quality work you are looking for. Most of the work involves support , hence , you gain minimal knowledge in technical domain.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A more transparent feedback system is required. Employee growth, incentives etc. should not only depend upon the immediate manager's feedback.
