I have been working at American Express full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Strong brand and large earning potential if you meet your sales numbers. Ability to work from home and travel into a specific sales territory. Travel perks are excellent!

Cons

Many of the "mentors" are just trying to receive a high rating in Leadership to ensure their maximum bonus and do not embody the true essence of helping colleagues. As a field sales person you are often left out on your own and do not have the support of experienced Director.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote competent Directors and not just those with top selling records - often times the ability to be a "top producer" does not translate into a "great Director".

I worked at American Express full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great salary and benefits. The prescription plan offers free maintenance and vitamins.

    Cons

No support from team leaders or upper management. Huddle/meetings constantly cancelled due to high call volumes. Customer surveys rank/rate you even though the survey is clearly not yours. You are still countable for the survey.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

high turner , lack of management presence . I seen my director once in a year and half. He cancelled several skip level meetings. His presence was never on the floor.

I have been working at American Express full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The job is completely home based. No work related transportation costs, vehicle wear & tear or money spent on work attire. The company provides all the office equipment and they pay $75/month to cover internet and telephone. The call center is open everyday so setting your schedule should be a breeze. Advancement at home is possible or transistion to one of the on-site locations anywhere in the world. You are apart of a team.

    Cons

You are committed to the schedule you create for 1-2 years so choose wisely. Like any job you may be asked to work holidays. Working at home is still working. If you like chit-chatting with co-workers all day this isn't the job for you. Yes, you do still need a babysitter (not a con just a reality).
