I worked at American Express full-time (less than an year)

Pros

They really tailor to the needs of the employees. They have an onsite cafeteria that includes a Subway and a Starbucks. They have onsite fitness, nutritionist, and dietician. They also have an onsite Nurse and Nurse Practitioner. They even have a dentist that goes onsite to do dental work. The atmosphere is very positive and the pontential to make good money is there.

Cons

They are open 24/7 so schedules can be in evening and weekends. The health benefits are not that great. I was paying $530 / month for a family of 5 and you also pay a lot out of pocket when you are seen by a physician.

I have been working at American Express full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good compensation, benefits and ability to take earned time off. Company cares about clients and doing the right thing even when it's not the popular position. Very involved with philanthropy work, and throughout the year offers volunteer and charitable contribution opportunities to staff. A smart organization that is measured in its overall approach and knows how to shape and reinvent itself for the long run.

    Cons

Volume of work exceeds staff capacity frequently. Large bureaucracy can slow down decision making and ability to take action as well as stifle certain initiatives.
