I have been working at American Express full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

talented people, good work/life balance, collaborative environment, cares about customers, has launched some cool stuff -- couponless offers through facebook, etc., leader in payments with affluent customers (company is well positioned)

Cons

challenging regulatory environment, highly matrixed, difficult to pursue breakthrough innovation in any sustained way (start a project, end a project, prioritize, deprioritize) except for in a few select teams.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

it's difficult to run an agile project (multiple phased releases) with our funding process -- CBA covers phase 1, but hard to get phase 2 or phase 3 funded. So if one is diligent about launching the MVP, the rest of the product enhancements go on hold. This needs to change to support sustained innovation

    Pros

    -Great leadership and colleagues in the team
    -Good working experience
    -Good benefits
    -Flexibility regarding working from home

    Cons

    -More room for promotions/career growth would be better
    -Health insurance is not the best (High Deductible Health Plan)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Adding more perks and benefits would increase employee morale. I know the company cannot mimic Google, but something along those lines would be better. The HDHP health plan we have is not ideal and we had much better health insurance before.
