    Pros

Good corporate culture where people genuinely value relationships and treat colleauges and partners with respect

Lower than average pay; large hierarchy and hence slow decisions; not enough empowerment at junior and middle-manager levels

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to delegate and let subordinates make mistakes and learn!

I worked at American Express (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Big Name and is well thought of....just don't look "behind the curtain"

    Cons

VERY political. VPs spend all of their time "managing up" and not leading or servicing customers. Senior Execs have no clue of what is going on, and except for Ken Chennault, they do not care. Incompetent people are promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leave the tower once in a while (without making everyone aware when you are ) so you can see the "real state of affairs. We know when you are coming and the "dog and pony" shows are presented to you as if it were real.

Your VP's have no idea what is going on and we had to spend 50% of our time "telling them" what was going on so they could let you know. It's a joke in the field.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
