I worked at American Express full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Great training program, great benefits. Work life balance is amazing.

Cons

Managers/Supervisors are hit and miss. I had one supervisor I absolutely adored and had never done better at the company. Few weeks later I was transferred to a new supervisor, and now long story short. I have moved on to other business opportunities

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Middle management (supervisors) do matter refine your vetting process when hiring supervisors. They either make or break your company in the long run

Promotions are not done on merit but on networking
    Really big differences between departments

The organization is too bloated and it's easy for low performers to hide.

    Pros

Being able to say you work for American Express. Looks good on a resume. Great networking opportunities.

    Cons

Zero job security. Work life balance is lacking, reduction in staffing forces others to assume workload. Expectation is that you put your personal life on the back burner (miss birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, weddings) only to be laid off. Lack of equitable give and take between company and employee.
