Former Employee – worked at American Greetings as an intern for less than a year
Pros – Interns are exposed to the wonderful world of greeting cards, including the process from creation to retail placement, and the joys of waiting some 1 to 2 years for it to show up in a store.
Cons – It's a family owned/family run business. Unless your last name is Weiss, you can forget taking over one day. Your working days are filled with long, and often unnecessary meetings. They like to meet to meet. They're Hallmark's competitor, so there's also a bit of "we're number 2" attitude; they're content where they are in the eyes of the consumer but that may be because it's next to impossible to outshine Hallmark.
Advice to Senior Management – Spend time getting to know the interns.
