I worked at American Medical Response full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The experience of working in a 911 system is second to none. It builds confidence and leadership skills that cannot be taught anywhere else except on the front line of EMS. Many of the other employees were dedicated professionals and there was a distinct camaraderie.

    Cons

I felt as if I was just a mule to them. The company would force overtime, deplete the ALS system for non-urgent scheduled transfers. They would work you as much and as hard as they could and when you complained or offered insight on how to improve, you get told if you don't like it here you can go elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize your best assets are the people below you. AMR is on its way out and continues to lose contracts and the public's confidence to provide an adequate 911 system as they promise. If the employees are treated as an asset and not the biggest liability and easily replaceable. I wanted to be a Paramedic forever and working for AMR changed that very quickly. Understand that employees are the eyes and ears of the company and can and will make or break the future for AMR!
