Current Employee - Graduate Programs Coordinator in Washington, DC
Current Employee - Graduate Programs Coordinator in Washington, DC

I have been working at American University part-time (more than an year)

Pros

Among some of the best things about working at American University are the work-life balance, the opportunities to meet friendly people and the interactive community. Students are engaging, professors are genuine, and the school is on the cutting edge of professional development.

Cons

Due to the small number of jobs, there isn't a lot of room to move even once you have acquired more professional skills. Also, there is very little to no interaction between programs, they are very isolated. As well, a lot of turnover.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create incentives to take professional development classes by linking them to opportunities for professional advancement. Create a better culture for non academic employees.

I have been working at American University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The university has good values though the implementation of them is limited. Your supervisor can easy make or break your time here.

    Cons

Very low pay, little room for development or career growth. Little resources to go around make people very suspicious of each other and act like scavengers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on knowing how to implement things well.
