    I have been working at Ameriprise full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great opportunities for advancement
    Good benefits
    Good leadership - they care about your career path and will help you get there by helping with networking, etc.
    High emphasis on performance and development planning
    Great values and culture, value diversity

    Cons

    Because of the highly regulated industry, hard to get things done quickly or easily
    Sometimes difficult to work cross-organizationally
    Hard to get mind share with advisors if you aren't one of the big-time products (Insurance/annuities/funds, etc)

    Communication, communication, communication.

    I worked at Ameriprise as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

    Nice looking facilities, nice looking cafeteria..

    Cons

    Everything else. It's a "good old boy" network based on longevity. Working conditions aren't as nice as it looks. Contractors are treated like second rate people by managers with egos that need two people to carry them.

    Management does not mean dictatorship.
