I have been working at Ameriprise full-time (more than an year)

Pros

While this may change from department to department. I have found the organization to be supportive of career growth and committed to retaining high performers. The minneapolis campus has a wide array of support services on site.

Cons

Being a financial services firms there is layers upon layers of rules and regulations. More a reflection of the industry than the firm.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Engage with employees at all levels of the organization. Senior level leaders are very insulated.

I worked at Ameriprise full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

They pay well. There are always interesting projects and things happening. Many of your coworkers will be fun and interesting people.

    Cons

They work at bare bone staffing and expect maximum output at all times. Management isoblivious to the amount of time and effort put in by many and when they are made aware, they don't care - as long as the work is done. Marketing is the WORST. You will work long hard hours until you are burnt out. I worked there for 20 years and saw it over and over, until I was burnt out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You don't 'walk the talk" of respecting your employees and their personal lives . There are people who are overburdened because of your last-minute, get-it-done attitudes that don't respect agreed upon schedules or employees' personal sacrifices. Either trust people at the lower levels to do their jobs and quit meddling so far down the line of of authority that you are disruptive, or hire people that you can trust so that you don't feel compelled to keep meddling in areas well below your normal scope of authority.
