Political playground has made the company lose focus on effectiveness.

I worked at Ameriprise full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Competitive pay and benefits. The benefits seem to be above average for Minneapolis, despite gradually eroding year over year. Those who have been with the company for many years have excellent pay and unmatched vacation allotments.

    Cons

Extremely politically charged environment. There are political players in many leadership roles delighting themselves in their personal quests for domination. This poisonous layer of upper-middle management tends to sour the people perspective of the whole organization.

Lack of investment in innovation. Talent has been consistently leaving the company in critical technology spaces.

I have been working at Ameriprise full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

lots of good benefits and opportunities for advancement in a variety of fields. There's a lot of online training available . If you're identified as someone your manager wants to develop, the sky's the limit. There are no qualms about giving selected people more opportunities to advance.

    Cons

political, lots of competition and layoffs are a current threat. There's much more pressure lately and it shows in the tension of managers and the atmosphere is much more strained. Much more focus on the numbers and bottom line than there is on the harder to measure qualities like client satisfaction. Advisors seem unhappier - the veterans are paying more and getting less and the newly recruited advisors are finding things aren't exactly as they were told.
